We tend to look at the architecture of buildings in terms of their appearance and function. But we do not consider their acoustic importance except for theaters and cathedrals. I visited an abandoned brick factory. I brought with me a portable recorder. I also brought with me a kick drum pedal with a modified beater mallet and modified sticks appropriate beating on metal. I found that there was great musical potential in the various objects and machinery left behind. Here are a couple of sound bites from that visit.
